I know we say this each year but……we can’t believe how quickly this year has flown by.  As we look back through all the posts this year, the class pages and all the Instagram posts it is clear that the children have had many wonderful learning experiences this year and we are enormously proud of their progress and achievements.

As we all know this last half term has been incredibly difficult for the whole community.  The pupils have shown phenomenal resilience and maturity with everything they have had to deal with.  We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff for their dedication and hard work, they really pulled together in order to support the pupils and each other when they themselves were grieving.  One thing that has really helped to pull the staff through this very difficult time has been the support from parents and the generosity and kindness of others.  Many schools have been in touch offering support, donations from fundraising, toys and books and even their own school trips.  Many companies have offered support such as providing lunch for staff, theatre tickets, counsellors and workshops.  We really are enormously grateful for all the thoughtful gestures.

This morning we had our Leavers Assembly and End of Year Awards Ceremony.  The Year 6 shared their most poignant memories from their times at OGPS and the following list of children all received an award.  If your child didn’t receive an award this does not mean they haven’t done well but unfortunately we can’t give an award to everyone – we wish we could!

Awards 2017

We don’t only have children to say goodbye to BUT we also have several members of staff leaving us:

Jasmin Wharmby and Sasha Davison who have both taught at Oxford Gardens for 1 year and whilst only being at school for a short period they have left their mark and will be missed.

Natalie Petric leaves us after 2 years at Oxford Gardens.  She has been an amazing support in Reception and Year 1 working 1:1 with a pupil who I know will miss her enormously.

Rochelle Fryer joined OGPS 8 years ago as the librarian in what was then our new library.  Rochelle is one of only a couple of members of staff who works with all pupils from Nursery to Year 6 and has had such a positive impact on all of the children.

Aneta Tramburora-Kisic has worked at Oxford Gardens for 13 years sharing her expertise in the Foundation Stage.  This year Aneta has also run a very successful after school karate club in which many children have benefited enormously.

Corinne Rutley leaves us after 14 years at Oxford Gardens and in this time has shown enormous compassion and care for all the children she has worked with.

Lucie Mack has also been at Oxford Gardens for 14 years, originally joining the team as a Learning Mentor and then becoming a teacher who has worked across all key stages and in the last few years has been Head of Early Years.  Lucie has had a huge impact on both the staff and pupils she has worked with.

We also have 2 long-standing staff Learning Support Assistants who are leaving us this year: Gill Mekari and Pauline Clements.  Gill has been at Oxford Gardens for 24 years and Pauline for 23 years.  They have shown enormous dedication and hard work over the years and they will be hugely missed by the whole of the OGPS community.

We will miss the Year 6 pupils and the staff that re moving on to new things but as we said in assembly this morning they will always be part of the OGPS community.  Saying goodbye to people is always sad but we have lots to look forward to next year and have 6 new members of staff joining our team:

Louisa Johnson as teacher of Merpeople Class; Abigail Vines as teacher of Goblin Class; Anna Joseph as teacher of Troll Class and Charlotte Morrissey as teacher of Leprechaun Class.  We also have 2 new support staff joining our team: Roya Tellaie as Nursery Officer in Pixie Class and Jackie Hawes as an HLTA with responsibility for the library.

Finally, we wish you all a restful Summer holidays, for those of you who are going away we wish you safe travels and look forward to welcoming you all back on Wednesday 6th September.

Sarah Cooper, Claire Silver & Leila Kent
